The International Conference 2026
International Conference & Annual Business Meeting (ICON-ABM) 2026 is an international academic forum organized by APSPBI in collaboration with Jakarta-Banten APSPBI Regional, DKI Jakarta. The conference is designed to bring together academics, practitioners, and educational stakeholders to respond to the changing landscape of English Language Education in the era of generative AI. Co-hosted by Esa Unggul University, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Universitas Kritsten Indonesia Jakarta.
The Theme: Humanizing English Language Education in the Age of AI: Transformative Learning, Ethics, and Teacher Agency.
The rapid development of generative AI has directly affected the field of English Language Education because its core capabilities are language-based. AI can generate text, revise drafts, summarize information, translate content, and support language-related tasks that were once central to students’ learning processes. This creates both opportunities and serious pedagogical challenges for teachers, institutions, and students.
In higher education, the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT is already expanding across multiple roles and purposes. However, responsible integration requires more than technical training. It requires clear governance, ethical awareness, strong pedagogical design, and the active role of educators in ensuring that learning remains meaningful, fair, reflective, and human-centred.
This conference aims to strengthen the framework of Humanizing ELT in the AI Era by grounding discussion in transformative learning and teacher agency. It seeks to ensure that the integration of generative AI does not stop at tool adoption, but leads to meaningful changes in how English is taught, learned, and assessed.
The conference also aims to generate practical and policy-oriented outcomes, especially in relation to task design, fair and AI-resilient assessment, academic integrity, and institutional responses to responsible AI use. In addition, it serves as a platform for research collaboration, publication networking, and collective decision-making through APSPBI’s Association Business Meeting.
